We are thrilled to announce our Foundation’s new scholarship, co-funded by Deloitte Greece Foundation, awarded to Andreas Koulouris MD, PhD student at the renowned Karolinska Institutet, Sweden, researching lung cancer. In parallel, Andreas is completing his PhD on colorectal cancer at the University of Crete.

Andreas is also a consultant, medical oncologist at the Thoracic Oncology Center at the Karolinska University Hospital.

Andreas was selected among several highly qualified PhD students and researchers of Greek origin who study in Greece or abroad and were invited to apply for the new, joint EIG Foundation & Deloitte Greece Foundation scholarship in early fall 2024.
The joint scholarship has a duration of 3 years, until Andreas completes his studies at the Karolinska Institutet.

Passionate about his science, Andreas “chose Medicine, as a teenager, driven by a deep fascination with the “mechanisms of life and death” at the cellular level and a genuine interest in the therapeutic approach to patient care”. In his own words “my envisioned career path combines the role of a proficient oncologist at a reference center with that of an independent researcher capable of transforming innovative ideas into tangible outcomes that advance scientific knowledge. It is a profound honour for me to have my CV enriched by the ”EIG Foundation & Deloitte Greece Foundation scholarship”, which significantly supports my research endeavours in Sweden.”

Our scholar, PhD candidate, Biomedical Engineering & Industrial Biotechnology, Faculty of Engineering at Imperial College London, UK, participated at the American Institute of Chemical Engineers annual conference in San Diego, USA, the most prestigious international conference in the Chemical Engineering sector. Eleni presented the innovative technology she is developing for her biosensor, which detects skin cancer at early stages, a subject she’s researching during her PhD. During the conference, Eleni earned the best poster award for the Bioengineering sector. We would like to thank Eleni for acknowledging the EIG Foundation in her poster and we congratulate her for her win!

Our very first scholar, that we supported throughout her PhD studies, Foteini Papaleonidopoulou, has earned her MPhil/PhD in Biomedical & Medical Sciences at the renowned Francis Crick Institute in London, UK. We are proud of what she has accomplished and happy we supported Foteini with a scholarship during her studies. We wholeheartedly wish her the best in her future studies and career.
