Elena Thanou

Elena’s connection with chemistry was significantly strengthened when she realized that the discipline can serve as a bridge between scientific research and clinical practice. The understanding that chemical and molecular analyses can directly contribute to the diagnosis and monitoring of diseases became a decisive factor in her decision to pursue research in the field of clinical chemistry. After completing her undergraduate studies at the Department of Chemistry of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, she continued her academic journey in the postgraduate program Clinical Biochemistry – Molecular Diagnostics, where she deepened her knowledge of modern molecular methodologies applied to cancer research.

Andreas Koulouris

Andreas chose Medicine driven by a deep fascination with the “mechanisms of life and death” at the cellular level and a genuine interest in the therapeutic approach to patient care. His envisioned career path combines the role of a proficient oncologist at a reference center with that of an independent researcher capable of transforming innovative ideas into tangible outcomes that advance scientific knowledge. In this context, his research Odyssey has brought him to the shores of the Karolinska Institutet. Joining this prestigious institution represents the realization of lifelong dreams and the culmination of years of effort in the fields of Greek education and oncological training, where he was nurtured and matured both scientifically and personally. Through his research, he strives to pioneer innovative treatment strategies and refine prognostic tools for patients with lung and colorectal cancer.

Eleni Chatzilakou

Eleni’s passion for chemical engineering blossomed early, driven by its promise to translate scientific advancements into tangible biomedical solutions. Equipped with research experiences from respectable institutions such as the Spanish National Research Council and the Hellenic National Centre for Scientific Research, she is currently a PhD Researcher at Imperial College London, where she works on pioneering research initiatives focused on biosensing technologies for skin cancer diagnosis.

Foteini Papaleonidopoulou

Foteini, raised at the SOS Children’s Villages in Athens, developed a passion for the natural world since a young age. Her aspiration was to grow into a scientist and work towards scientific discoveries that will have great impact in society.  Today, she holds hands-on research experience from renownedbinstitutions, with her studies fully supported by merit scholarships from esteemed Greek and international foundations. Foteini proudly serves as the ambassador for the Elena Iliopoulou Giama Cancer Research & Scholarship Foundation. She is also the inaugural recipient of a scholarship that will propel her towards achieving her professional and educational aspirations.
