Our Mission
Founded in memory of Elena Iliopoulou Giama, the EIG Foundation emerged from her husband’s, Spyros Giamas, determination to turn personal loss into hope for others and is dedicated to advancing cancer research, with a special emphasis on colorectal cancer, and supporting the next generation of oncology leaders.
We honor Elena’s legacy by funding innovative research to develop more effective prevention strategies, early detection methods, and treatments for cancer, with a special emphasis on colorectal cancer. Our work is focused on providing scholarships to promising PhD students and researchers pursuing careers in cancer research and patient care, particularly in the field of those cancers that, like colorectal oncology, are underfunded and in urgent need of further discoveries.
Since our establishment, we have been committed to accelerating progress toward a future where cancer is highly preventable, readily treatable, and no longer life-threatening. By nurturing talent and passion, we aim to sustain this critical work for years to come, ensuring that Elena’s memory continues to drive positive change in the fight against cancer.
